CleenU product solution
Silver & Brass Cleaner
Mild acid dissolves tarnish · Ultra-fine polish · Private label
Tarnished silver or dull, green brass? Rub a little polish on with a soft cloth along the grain, rinse in warm water once the tarnish lifts, and buff dry for the shine back. Factory-direct private label.
- Silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air to form black silver sulfide. Copper and brass dull in humid air and then grow green patina. Both are chemical changes in the metal surface, so soap and water won't remove them. Citric acid and a chelator dissolve the discolored layer, an ultra-fine abrasive buffs, and a rub and rinse bring the shine back.
- Many brass lamps and fixtures have a clear lacquer coat that polish will haze; only uncoated brass needs polishing. Silver plate is thin, so use a lighter hand and polish less often. Keep it off gemstones, especially porous ones like pearls and turquoise. A little dark detail left in engraved patterns is often intentional.

Before & after
Before and after (illustration)
Before: a sterling soup spoon after a year in a drawer is yellowed overall with black in the handle pattern. After: rubbed lightly along the grain, rinsed, and buffed, the bowl is bright silver again with a soft decorative shadow left in the pattern.
- Before: yellowed spoon, black pattern
- After polishing and buffing: bright silver
- Pattern keeps a soft decorative shadow

How it works
How the discolored layer comes off
Silver tarnish is silver sulfide; brass and copper discolor with copper oxide and basic copper carbonate (patina). Under mildly acidic conditions citric acid reacts with patina to form soluble copper citrate and a chelator binds dissolved metal ions. For silver sulfide, the ultra-fine abrasive removes the layer with very light mechanical action, the cream lubricates and carries debris away, and rinsing and drying prevent water spots.
- A little polish on a cloth
- Rub along the grain
- Acid and abrasive lift the layer
- Rinse in warm water
- Dry and buff right away

Product, use, and procurement
Why does silver tarnish and brass turn green?
Silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air to form black silver sulfide. Copper and brass dull in moisture and carbon dioxide and eventually grow green patina. These are chemical changes in the metal surface, so water won't remove them; a polish has to dissolve and buff them off.
Polish or polishing cloth?
A polishing cloth is fine for light dulling. For clearly tarnished silver with black in the pattern, or dull brass and copper, polish works faster: citric acid dissolves the tarnish and an ultra-fine abrasive brings up the shine.
Will it wear silver down?
Not with gentle polishing. The abrasive is very fine and works on the tarnish layer. Silver plate is thin, so use a lighter hand and polish less often.
What should we decide first for a private-label metal polish?
Focus, format, and kit. Silver, brass and copper, or all-purpose; a squeeze bottle or a tin with sponge; and whether to bundle an anti-tarnish spray and polishing cloth. Demand spikes before the holidays.
How fast can we get samples and a first order?
Free samples ship in 3–5 days. MOQ is 500 bottles, and production is scheduled once packaging and labels are approved.
Can I use the same polish on silver and brass?
Yes. CleenU Silver & Brass Cleaner is made for both. Silver tarnish and dull brass are both discolored surface layers, and the polish handles them the same way: citric acid dissolves the tarnish and an ultra-fine abrasive buffs it out. Use a light hand on anything plated, since the plating is thin.
Product usage questions
How do I use it?
Put a little polish on a soft cloth or sponge, rub the tarnish gently along the grain, rinse in warm water once it lifts, and dry and buff right away with a soft cloth.
How do I clean black in engraved patterns?
Work polish into the pattern with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry. A little black left in the recesses is often intentional detail, so you don't have to remove it all.
Can I use it on lacquered brass?
No. Many brass fixtures and lamps have a clear lacquer coat, and polish will haze it. Only uncoated brass needs polishing.
Can I use it on silver jewelry with stones?
Keep it off the stones. Work around them with a cotton swab, and avoid porous stones like pearls and turquoise entirely.
Can I use it on silver flatware?
Yes. Wash with water and dry before use.
Can I use it on antique silver?
Ask a conservator about valuable antiques; patina can be part of their value.
How do I keep silver from tarnishing again?
Dry it and store it sealed, away from rubber and sulfur-containing items.
How do I tell if my brass is lacquered before polishing?
Check first, because polish will haze a lacquer coat. Lacquered brass usually looks evenly glossy and doesn't tarnish in patches; uncoated brass dulls unevenly and darkens where hands touch it. If you're unsure, rub a little polish on a hidden spot: if it turns cloudy instead of brighter, it's coated, so just dust it with a damp cloth.
How do I clean silver-plated brass?
Polish gently and stop as soon as the tarnish lifts. The silver layer on plated pieces is thin, and over-polishing can expose the brass underneath. Use a small amount on a soft cloth, rub lightly, rinse in warm water, and dry right away. If yellow metal starts showing through, stop working that spot.
OEM/ODM customization questions
What can we customize?
Formula direction (silver, brass and copper, or all-purpose), abrasive grade, fill size (200 mL squeeze bottle, tin, and more), sponges and cloths, label design and language, and holiday gift kits.
How should we test samples?
Use tarnished sterling flatware, silver-plated pieces, and dull brass and copper panels, and record tarnish removal time, shine after buffing, fine scratching, and plating condition. That tells you more than a before-and-after photo.
What paperwork comes with a private-label order?
Documents such as SDS/MSDS, TDS, COA, and label copy for your target market are prepared per project. We confirm which ones your order includes when we quote.
