CleenU product solution
Down Jacket Wash
pH-neutral and gentle · Lofty down after washing · Private label
Grimy collar and cuffs on your down jacket, and regular detergent leaves it flat and clumped? Work a little into the collar and cuffs, soak and press gently in 86°F water or use the down cycle, rinse well, and tumble dry low with a few tennis balls. Factory-direct private label.
- Down stays warm by lofting into an air layer, and each plume carries natural oils that keep it springy. Most detergents are alkaline, aggressive on oil, and often contain protease, stripping those oils and damaging the keratin, so down collapses and clumps. This wash is pH-neutral, enzyme- and bleach-free, and conditions the plumes while it cleans.
- Clumped down usually means it wasn't rinsed or dried thoroughly. Add an extra rinse, never wring, and spin gently. Tumble dry low with 2–3 clean tennis balls to break up clumps, or lay flat in the shade and fluff often. Skip regular detergent, softener, bleach, and direct sun.

Before & after
Before and after (illustration)
Before: a white down jacket after a full winter, with a grimy collar and cuffs and a coffee spot on the front. After: pretreated, soaked and pressed in 86°F water, rinsed twice, and tumble-dried low with tennis balls, the stains are out and the down is evenly lofty with no clumps.
- Before: grimy collar and cuffs, coffee spot
- Pretreated, soaked, pressed, rinsed twice
- Dried low with tennis balls, lofty

How it works
How down gets clean and stays lofty
Collar and cuff grime is mostly skin oil and makeup. Mild nonionic surfactants emulsify it at neutral pH without stripping the plumes' natural lipids the way strong alkali would; the formula has no protease to attack keratin-based down; and the loft conditioner leaves an ultra-thin slip layer that keeps wet plumes from tangling, so they spring back as they dry.
- Pretreat collar and cuffs
- Soak in 86°F water
- Press gently
- Rinse thoroughly
- Dry low with tennis balls

Where Down Jacket Wash stands out
Why regular detergent flattens down
Down stays warm by lofting into an air layer, and each plume carries natural oils that keep it springy. Most detergents are alkaline, aggressive on oil, and often contain protease, stripping those oils and damaging the keratin, so down collapses and clumps. This wash is pH-neutral, enzyme- and bleach-free, and conditions the plumes while it cleans.
Drying matters more than washing
Clumped down usually means it wasn't rinsed or dried thoroughly. Add an extra rinse, never wring, and spin gently. Tumble dry low with 2–3 clean tennis balls to break up clumps, or lay flat in the shade and fluff often. Skip regular detergent, softener, bleach, and direct sun.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Find practical answers about Down Jacket Wash, private label, samples, MOQ, documents, and delivery.
Product, use, and procurement
Why does down clump after washing?
Regular detergent strips natural oils from the down, so it dries brittle and tangles. Incomplete drying clumps it too. Use a down wash and dry thoroughly with tennis balls.
Can I dry-clean a down jacket?
Most shouldn't be. Dry-cleaning solvents strip the down's oils as well; follow the care label and wash it.
How fast can we get samples and a first order?
Free samples ship in 3–5 days. MOQ is 500 bottles, and production is scheduled once packaging and labels are approved.
Product usage questions
How do I use it?
Pretreat collars and cuffs with a little neat wash, then hand wash with about 4 teaspoons per gallon of water at 86°F, pressing and soaking 10 minutes, or use the down cycle; rinse well and tumble dry low with 2–3 tennis balls to restore loft.
When shouldn't I use it?
Don't use regular detergent, softener, or bleach, and don't wring or sun-dry.
Can I wash a down comforter?
Yes, on the down cycle if your machine is big enough; dry longer to make sure the center is fully dry.
Can I use it on waterproof down shells?
Yes, use as directed and check the care label first. The formula is neutral, and you can respray repellent after washing.
How often should I wash down?
About once a season, before storage; spot-clean the collar in between.
What if it smells after washing?
It isn't fully dry; keep tumbling on low or air-dry somewhere airy until fully dry.
Can I tumble-dry a down jacket?
Yes, on low with 2–3 tennis balls, until the inside is fully dry.
Will it remove yellowing on down jackets?
Collar and cuff yellowing is mostly skin oil; pretreat and soak for clear improvement.
How many jackets per bottle?
About 20–40 mL per hand-washed jacket, so 10 or more per 500 mL.
What should I keep in mind with kids' down jackets?
Wash them the same way at the directed dose, rinse well, and dry thoroughly before your child wears them.
Can I use Dawn dish soap to wash my down jacket?
Use a down wash instead. Dish soap is made to cut grease, and down relies on its natural oils to stay springy, so stripping them leaves the clusters dry and prone to clumping. CleenU Down Jacket Wash goes in at about 4 teaspoons per gallon of 86°F water; rinse well and tumble dry low with 2–3 tennis balls. CleenU is not affiliated with Dawn.
Can I put a down jacket in the washing machine?
Yes, if the care label allows it—run the down cycle with a down wash instead of regular detergent. Skip softener and bleach, and don't wring it out afterward. Tumble dry on low with 2–3 tennis balls until the inside is fully dry, because damp down is what clumps and smells.
Why did my puffer jacket come out flat and lumpy after washing?
The two usual causes are the wrong detergent and incomplete drying. Regular detergent strips the oils from the down so it tangles, and down that's still damp inside sticks together. Rewash with a down wash if needed, then keep tumbling on low with tennis balls until the center is fully dry.
