Leather Sofa Cleaning & Fabric Protection Solution

The right leather sofa cleaner depends on the leather. Most household leather is coated, and darkened arms and seat edges are body oil, sweat, and dust built up on that coating, which a mildly acidic clean-and-condition formula lifts while moisturizing the leather. Nubuck, suede, and aniline leather have no coating and aren't suitable. Once clean, fabric sofas, shoes, bags, and smooth leather can take a water-based protector so later spills bead up and can be blotted in time. CleenU matches a leather cleaner and conditioner and a fabric and leather protector to the job and makes private-label and OEM/ODM versions for brands, distributors, and online sellers.

Leather Sofas: Clean First, Then Protect

For darkened arms on coated leather sofas, chairs, and leather car seats, spray a mildly acidic leather cleaner onto a microfiber cloth, wipe the dark areas in circles, and buff with a dry cloth; it dries in about 10 minutes. Don't spray the leather heavily. Once fabric sofas, cushions, shoes, bags, canvas, and smooth leather are clean and dry, spray two coats of a water-based protector from 15–20 cm; it works after 12 hours of drying, and spills then bead up so you can blot them. Reapply after washing or every 2–3 months. Don't use the cleaner on nubuck, suede, or aniline leather, and spot-test suede and velvet before protecting.

  • Leather Type: Coated leather takes the cleaner and conditioner; nubuck, suede, and aniline don't.
  • Why It Darkens: Body oil, sweat, and dust build up on the coating; a mildly acidic formula cleans and moisturizes at once.
  • How to Use: Spray the cleaner on a cloth, wipe in circles, and buff; protect clean, dry surfaces with two coats and 12 hours of drying.
  • Surfaces: Coated and smooth leather and upholstery fabric; spot-test everything in a hidden area.
  • The Order: Clean first, then protect; reapply after washing or every 2–3 months.

Where to Use It

Leather Sofas & Chairs

Darkened arms, seat edges, and headrests: spray the Leather Upholstery Cleaner & Conditioner onto a cloth, wipe in circles, and buff.

Leather Car Seats

Body oil and sweat: spray a cloth, wipe, and buff; don't soak perforated seats.

Fabric Sofa Protection

Clean, dry fabric sofas and cushions: two coats of the Fabric & Leather Stain Protector, and spills bead up after 12 hours.

Shoes, Bags & Canvas

Once clean and dry, spray the protector on shoe uppers, bags, and canvas so rain and spills don't soak in.

Spot-test natural stone, coated, and wood surfaces in a hidden area first.

When Not to Use It

  • Nubuck, suede, and aniline leather: they have no surface coating, so skip the leather sofa cleaner and use a specialist product or professional care.
  • Cracked, peeling, or faded leather: cleaning and conditioning can't repair damage, so severe cases need leather repair.
  • Surfaces that aren't clean or are still damp: the protector must go on clean, dry fabric, or it seals stains in.
  • Floors, glass, and smooth hard surfaces: overspray on floors makes them slippery, so cover them and ventilate while spraying.

Compare the Options

Three common leather and fabric care jobs, compared by product, pH, foam, and method. Coated leather sofas and car seats take the mildly acidic cleaner sprayed onto a cloth; clean, dry fabric and smooth leather take two coats of the water-based protector. Clean first, then protect, or the protective layer won't work.

How to Use It

  1. Identify the Leather

Water-drop test: beading means coated; quick absorption and darkening means aniline or nubuck.

  2. Spot-Test

Test both cleaner and protector in a hidden area to make sure color and feel don't change.

  3. Clean, Then Protect

Wipe with the cleaner on a cloth and buff; only protect once the surface is clean and dry.

  4. Check the Result

See whether the arms return to their original color, and after 12 hours drip water to check that it beads.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about how to use it, which surfaces are safe, and private-label orders.

Use & Cleaning

How do you clean dark spots on leather sofa arms?

Spray the leather sofa cleaner onto a microfiber cloth, wipe the darkened arms and seat edges in circles, switching to a clean side as the cloth picks up dirt, then buff with a dry cloth; it dries in about 10 minutes. Don't spray the leather heavily or scrub repeatedly with a wet rag or strong alkaline cleaner.

What cleaner is safe for leather car seats?

Most leather car seats are coated, so a mildly acidic leather cleaner and conditioner works: spray a cloth, wipe, and buff. Don't soak perforated seats, which lets liquid into the holes, and don't use it on nubuck or Alcantara.

Does fabric protector spray work?

Yes, when used correctly: spray two coats on clean, dry fabric from 15–20 cm and let it dry 12 hours, and spills will bead on the surface long enough to blot them up. It doesn't replace cleaning, and it needs reapplying after washing or every 2–3 months.

Surfaces & Safety

How can I tell if leather is coated?

Put a small drop of water in a hidden spot. If it beads on the surface, it's likely coated leather; if it soaks in quickly and darkens, it's likely aniline or nubuck, which shouldn't get the leather sofa cleaner.

Will the protector change how the fabric looks or feels?

Test-spray a hidden area on light, dark, and specialty fabrics first, and check the color and feel once dry before treating the whole piece. Test suede and velvet especially carefully.

Can I use the protector on shoes and canvas bags?

Yes. Once shoe uppers, bags, and canvas are clean and dry, spray two coats and let them dry 12 hours; rain and spills are then less likely to soak in.

Private Label & Sourcing

What should I prepare before asking about a private-label leather cleaner?

Settle four things: furniture, car, or shoe and bag channels; a single product or a clean-and-protect kit; scent and bottle size; and your target market and label language. Then we'll arrange free samples, usually ready in 3–5 days.

What documents come with OEM leather cleaning and protection products?

We provide SDS/MSDS, TDS, and batch COA, and prepare label copy for your target market. These documents aren't posted for download; we send them on request after you inquire.

What are the MOQ and lead time for leather cleaning and protection products?

Standard projects start at 500 bottles. Free samples are usually ready in 3–5 days, and production is scheduled after packaging and labels are approved.

Launching a Leather Care or Protector Product? Start with Free Samples

Leather sofa and fabric care comes down to cleaning first, then protecting: wipe coated leather sofas and car seats with a mildly acidic cleaner sprayed onto a cloth and buff dry; then give clean, dry fabric sofas, shoes, bags, and smooth leather two coats of a water-based protector and reapply regularly. Skip the cleaner on nubuck, suede, and aniline leather. If you're launching your own leather care or protection product, CleenU can start from these two formulas, with free samples first and a 500-bottle MOQ.
