CleenU product solution
Ice Machine Cleaner
Citric acid descaler · Nickel-safe · Private label
Ice getting smaller, cloudier, or off-tasting? Run home units at 1:20 through the clean cycle, dose commercial machines per the manual, then run 2–3 rinse cycles and toss the first two batches of ice. Factory-direct private label.
- An ice maker freezes a lot of water, and the calcium and magnesium stay behind on the evaporator and lines as white scale. Thick scale cuts heat transfer, so cubes release slowly and come out small; in bad cases they won't release and the compressor works harder. Scale also hides slime that gives ice an off taste.
- Many ice machine evaporators are nickel-plated, and generic acid descalers can damage the plating. This formula includes corrosion inhibitors for nickel-plated evaporators and works in countertop units and commercial machines whose manuals allow acid cleaners. Run two or three rinse cycles and toss the first two batches, and there's no leftover taste.

Before & after
Before and after (illustration)
Before: a countertop ice maker after six months has white scale on the reservoir and evaporator, and the cubes are small and cloudy. After: a 1:20 clean cycle and three rinse cycles, the scale is clearly dissolved and cube size and clarity are back.
- Before: white scale, small cloudy cubes
- After clean cycle and three rinses: scale dissolved
- Cube size and clarity restored

How it works
How ice machine scale dissolves
Ice machine scale is mostly calcium and magnesium carbonate coating the evaporator and blocking heat transfer. Hydrogen ions from citric and organic acids react with carbonate to form soluble citrates and carbon dioxide and chelate minerals to prevent redeposit, inhibitors adsorb onto nickel and metal to limit acid attack, low-foam surfactants loosen slime, and rinse water carries it all away.
- Unplug and empty
- Fill with a 1:20 mix
- Run the clean cycle
- Acid dissolves scale
- Rinse 2–3 cycles, toss first two batches

Usage guidance
Use guidance
- Unplug, dump the ice and water, and fill a countertop unit's reservoir with a 1:20 mix (about 1.7 oz per quart).
- Run the clean or ice cycle; for commercial machines, add the cleaner per the manual's cleaning procedure and dose.
- Drain, run 2–3 plain-water cycles, and toss the first two batches of ice. Repeat every one to three months.

Where Ice Machine Cleaner stands out
Small, cloudy ice usually means scale
An ice maker freezes a lot of water, and the calcium and magnesium stay behind on the evaporator and lines as white scale. Thick scale cuts heat transfer, so cubes release slowly and come out small; in bad cases they won't release and the compressor works harder. Scale also hides slime that gives ice an off taste.
Why not use a coffee descaler
Many ice machine evaporators are nickel-plated, and generic acid descalers can damage the plating. This formula includes corrosion inhibitors for nickel-plated evaporators and works in countertop units and commercial machines whose manuals allow acid cleaners. Run two or three rinse cycles and toss the first two batches, and there's no leftover taste.

Product, use, and procurement
Why does an ice maker need descaling?
Minerals in the water build up on the evaporator and lines as scale. Scale makes ice smaller, slower, and cloudy, can stop cubes from releasing, and makes the compressor work harder. It also traps slime that gives ice an off taste.
Can I use coffee maker descaler instead?
We don't recommend it. Many ice machine evaporators are nickel-plated, and generic acid descalers can damage the plating. This formula includes corrosion inhibitors for nickel-plated evaporators. It works in countertop ice makers and in commercial machines whose manuals allow acid cleaners.
How often should I clean it?
Every one to three months for a countertop ice maker. For commercial machines, follow the manual, typically every six months, or every three in hard-water areas.
What should we decide first for a private-label ice machine cleaner?
Market, strength, and line. Countertop home units or foodservice (commercial buyers want gallons and nickel safety), concentrate or ready-to-use, and whether to pair it with an ice machine sanitizer.
How fast can we get samples and a first order?
Free samples ship in 3–5 days. MOQ is 500 bottles, and production is scheduled once packaging and labels are approved.
What does "nickel-safe" mean on an ice machine cleaner?
It means the formula is made to remove scale without attacking nickel-plated evaporators. Many ice machines have nickel-plated evaporators, and some general-purpose acid descalers can wear that plating down. CleenU Ice Machine Cleaner includes a corrosion inhibitor and is designed for nickel-plated evaporators; still confirm your machine's manual allows an acid-based cleaner.
Is ice machine cleaner the same as an ice machine sanitizer?
No—they do two different jobs. A cleaner dissolves scale and mineral buildup; sanitizing is a separate step many commercial manuals call for after cleaning. CleenU Ice Machine Cleaner is a descaler, not a sanitizer. Clean and rinse first, then use the sanitizer your equipment maker specifies, and never mix it with chlorine products.
Product usage questions
How do I clean a countertop ice maker?
Unplug it and dump the ice and water. Mix 1:20 (about 1.7 oz per quart of water), fill the reservoir, and run the clean or ice cycle. Drain, run 2–3 cycles with plain water, and toss the first two batches of ice.
How do I clean a commercial ice machine?
Add the cleaner at the dose in your machine's cleaning procedure, run the cycle, flush the water system thoroughly, and discard the first batch of ice.
Will the ice taste sour afterward?
Not if you run 2–3 plain-water cycles and toss the first two batches of ice as directed.
Any precautions?
It's an acidic concentrate, so wear gloves, flush eyes with water right away if splashed, never mix it with chlorine sanitizers, and keep it out of kids' reach.
Can I use it in a fridge ice maker?
Clean fridge ice bins per the manual; follow the maker's method for filtered water lines.
Is the first batch of ice OK after cleaning?
Discard the first two batches and make sure there's no odor before normal use.
What if the ice maker has mold?
Descale and clean, then dry inside; drain and leave the door open when unused for a while.
How do I use ice machine cleaner in a portable ice maker?
Unplug the unit, empty the ice and water, then mix CleenU Ice Machine Cleaner at 1:20 (about 50 mL per liter of water) in the reservoir. Run the clean cycle—or a regular ice cycle if there's no clean mode—then drain. Run plain water two to three times and toss the first two batches of ice.
OEM/ODM customization questions
What can we customize?
Strength, fill size (500 mL concentrate, 1-gallon jug, and more), label design and language, and kits with a reservoir brush and an ice machine sanitizer.
How should we test samples?
Run them in home and commercial machines with at least six months of visible scale, and record ice size and clarity, cycle time, and odor after rinsing. That tells you more than a before-and-after photo.
What paperwork comes with a private-label order?
Documents such as SDS/MSDS, TDS, COA, and label copy for your target market are prepared per project. We confirm which ones your order includes when we quote.
