Asphalt Tar Remover
Dissolves tar · Clear-coat safe · Private label
Black tar spots on sills and wheel arches that a car wash won’t move? In the shade, spray and wait 30 seconds to 2 minutes; the tar melts into brown streaks and wipes off with a soft cloth, safe on factory clear coat. Private label from 500 bottles.
- Road tar is the heavy fraction left after crude oil is distilled. It is semi-solid at room temperature, softens in heat, and hardens again once it cools on your paint. It doesn't mix with water, and car wash surfactants barely touch it. This remover uses petroleum and terpene solvents that are chemically close to tar, so like dissolves like: within seconds the tar softens and runs brown, and a soft cloth carries it off.
- A lot of people pick tar off with a fingernail or plastic card. The tar comes off, but a ring of fine scratches stays in the clear coat. Let the solvent dissolve the tar first, then wipe gently in one direction with a clean soft cloth, turning to a fresh section as it darkens. Wash the car afterward to remove solvent residue and add a coat of wax to restore a slick finish.

How it works
How Tar Dissolves
Road tar is long-chain alkanes, aromatics, and asphaltenes, all very low in polarity. The remover's petroleum and terpene solvents are low-polarity too, so they work into the tar and thin the thick asphalt into a liquid that flows. Its grip on the paint goes with it, and a soft cloth wipes it away. The solvents evaporate slowly enough to work, but wipe before they dry and wash the car to remove residue.

How to use
What are the black spots that won't wash off my car?
Raised black dots along the door sills and wheel arches are usually road tar. It is heavy petroleum that does not dissolve in water, so car wash soap can’t touch it. It needs a solvent.
Can I use it on car paint?
Yes, used as directed on factory clear coat: work in the shade, wipe once the tar softens, don't let it dry on the paint, and wash the car afterward. Spot-test matte paint, wraps, and fresh touch-up paint first.
How long do I wait before wiping?
30 seconds to 2 minutes, until the tar melts and runs brown. For thick spots, spray a second time rather than waiting longer.
How do I remove road tar from my car without hurting the paint?
Work in the shade on a cool panel, spray the tar spots only, and wipe once they melt—don't let the product dry on the paint. The solvents dissolve tar much like oil dissolves oil, so the spot softens and runs brown; wipe top to bottom with a soft microfiber, flipping to a clean side as it darkens. Wash the car afterward to remove solvent residue, and spot-test matte paint, wraps, and fresh paint first.
Surfaces and common questions
Do I need to wash the car afterward?
Yes. Solvent residue attracts dust and keeps wax or coatings from bonding. Wash, dry, then wax.
Can I use it on wheels and plastic bumpers?
Yes on wheels. On unpainted black plastic bumpers and trim, test first, keep contact short, and rinse promptly so it doesn’t whiten.
What else can it clean?
Asphalt on paving shovels, scrapers, and wheelbarrows, and tar stuck to shoe soles, wiped with a cloth.
The tar runs into a brown streak once it dissolves. Is that normal?
Yes—that’s the tar dissolving. Don’t smear it with a dry cloth; let it run for about 30 seconds, then wipe top to bottom with a soft cloth. Any brown trace washes off with the car wash.
Can I use it on paint protection film or a vinyl wrap?
Spot-test first, keep contact under 30 seconds, and wipe it off fast. Don’t spray film edges or seams—solvent that gets underneath can lift them. Matte film is more sensitive; if in doubt, skip it.
How much does one car take?
For scattered spots on the sills and wheel arches, a sedan usually takes a few dozen milliliters. Road-trip cars and SUVs with heavy spotting take more. Spray the spots, not whole panels.
Can I use it to get asphalt tar off clothes?
No, it isn't made for fabric. It's designed for car paint, wheels, bumpers, and metal tools; fabric soaks up the solvent along with the dissolved tar, which can leave an oily ring or pull color. Use a laundry stain remover made for oily stains, and test it on an inside seam first.
What dissolves tar and asphalt?
Petroleum-type and terpene solvents—tar is heavy petroleum, so it dissolves in solvents with a similar makeup and ignores water and car wash soap. That's how this remover works: a dearomatized petroleum solvent and terpene solvent with a little emulsifier, so the dissolved tar wipes away and the residue rinses off when you wash the car.
Buying and private label
What should we decide first for a private-label asphalt tar remover?
Three things: professional detailer line or retail for car owners, spray or foam, and whether it must be low-odor. Pro lines value speed and bulk sizes; retail values reassurance and scent.
What are the sample, MOQ, and lead-time terms?
Free samples are usually ready in 3–5 days. Standard MOQ is 500 bottles, and bulk orders are scheduled after packaging and labels are approved.
What can be customized?
All of it: formula direction, scent, fill size (500 mL spray, 1 L and 5 L refills, and more), mist or foam trigger, label design and language, and ecommerce bundles with microfiber detailing towels.
Can we test samples first?
Yes, we ship samples first. Test them on painted automotive panels with tar spots like the ones your customers handle, and record time to dissolve tar, wipe passes, and effect on clear coat and plastic trim. That tells you more than a before-and-after photo.
Which documents can you provide?
We provide SDS/MSDS, a TDS, and batch COAs, plus bilingual label content for your target market. They aren’t posted publicly; we send them per project on inquiry.
How is private-label pricing quoted?
Pricing is tiered by packaging, trigger or cap, label, and order quantity, starting at the 500-bottle MOQ. Send your target quantity, fill size, and packaging needs, and we’ll quote unit prices by volume tier with sample and lead-time details.
Launching your own Asphalt Tar Remover?
