CleenU product solution
Headlight Cleaner & Restorer
Polishes off oxidation · Seal with UV protection · Private label
Yellow, foggy headlights dimming the road at night? Tape off the paint, polish a little compound in circles for 3–5 minutes, wipe, and apply UV sealant for clear lenses again. Factory-direct private label.
- Modern lenses are polycarbonate with a factory UV hard coat. After a few years of sun the coat fails, UV oxidizes the plastic, and the surface turns into a rough yellow skin that blocks light and makes night driving noticeably dimmer. That skin isn't dirt; cleaners can't remove it. It has to be polished off.
- Once the oxidized layer is gone, fresh plastic is exposed to UV again, and without protection it yellows within months. A UV sealant typically lasts six to twelve months, so we recommend using the compound and sealant together; brands can sell a full kit with sandpaper, pads, and sealant.

Before & after
Before and after (illustration)
Before: the left headlight on a six-year-old sedan is yellow, hazy, and rough, and you can barely see the housing inside. After: taped off, polished in two rounds, and sealed, the lens is clear and the housing is easy to see.
- Before: yellow, hazy lens
- After two polishing rounds: clear
- Sealed: housing clearly visible

How it works
How the oxidized layer comes off
UV and oxygen photo-oxidize polycarbonate, breaking surface chains into yellow carbonyl compounds and micro-cracks that scatter light. Aluminum oxide in the compound mechanically removes that degraded layer while the emulsion lubricates and carries away debris. A UV sealant afterward slows the new surface from oxidizing again.
- Wash and tape off
- Polish in circles with compound
- Abrasive removes oxidation
- Wipe and check
- Apply UV sealant

Product, use, and procurement
Why do headlights turn yellow and cloudy?
Modern lenses are polycarbonate with a factory UV hard coat. After a few years of sun the coat breaks down, UV oxidizes the plastic, and the surface turns yellow and rough. Less light gets through, and night driving gets noticeably dimmer.
Will a regular cleaner clear them up?
No. The yellowing is an oxidized layer of plastic, not dirt. It has to be polished off with an abrasive compound and then protected to stay clear.
How long does a restoration last?
With a UV sealant on top, typically six to twelve months. Skip the sealant and they'll yellow again within a few months, so use the two together.
What should we decide first for a private-label headlight restorer?
Kit, method, and packaging. Compound alone or a full kit with sandpaper, pads, and UV sealant (full kits lead the category), hand or drill-pad application, and clear before-and-after illustration on the box.
How fast can we get samples and a first order?
Free samples ship in 3–5 days. MOQ is 500 bottles, and production is scheduled once packaging and labels are approved.
How does headlight restoration work?
It removes the yellowed, oxidized top layer of the plastic lens so the clear material underneath shows through. Cloudy headlights aren't dirty—the polycarbonate surface has broken down from sun exposure, so a cleaner alone won't fix it. Polishing also removes what's left of the factory UV coating, which is why you need to seal the lens with a UV protectant afterward.
Is headlight restoration worth it, or should I replace the headlights?
Restore first if the haze is on the outside of the lens; replace if the problem is inside. Yellowing, cloudiness, and light scratches on the outer surface usually respond to sanding and polishing. Moisture inside the housing, cracks, or deep pits won't improve with a restorer, so replacement makes more sense.
Product usage questions
How do I use it?
Wash the lens and mask the surrounding paint with painter's tape. Put a little compound on the pad, polish in firm circles for 3–5 minutes, wipe, check, and repeat if needed. Finish by wiping clean and applying UV sealant.
What if they're badly yellowed and peeling?
Wet-sand the failed coating first, working from coarse to fine (for example 800, 1500, then 3000 grit), then polish with the compound and seal.
Will it scratch my paint?
It can. The compound contains abrasives, so tape off the paint around the headlight before you start.
Does it work on glass headlights?
They don't need it. Glass doesn't oxidize; use a regular glass cleaner. This compound is for polycarbonate lenses.
Can I use it on motorcycle headlights?
Yes. Polycarbonate lenses work the same way; mask the surrounding paint first.
Should I protect the lens afterward?
Yes. A UV-blocking sealant slows yellowing from coming back.
Does it work on taillights?
Yes. Hazy red taillight lenses can be treated the same way.
Can I wash my car after restoring the headlights?
Yes, once the UV protectant has fully cured—follow the cure time on its label. Water or car-wash soap on a fresh coat can streak it before it sets. Park out of the rain that day, and afterward wash with a pH-neutral car soap and a soft mitt instead of a stiff brush.
OEM/ODM customization questions
What can we customize?
Abrasive grade, formula direction, fill size (200 mL squeeze bottle, and more), sandpaper and pad sets, UV sealant, label design and language, and complete restoration kits.
How should we test samples?
Find headlights at different levels of yellowing, do one side of each car, and record polish time, how much clarity comes back, any visible scratching, and re-yellowing over the following months with sealant applied. That tells you more than a before-and-after photo.
What paperwork comes with a private-label order?
Documents such as SDS/MSDS, TDS, COA, and label copy for your target market are prepared per project. We confirm which ones your order includes when we quote.
