Tune formulas for washing, iron removal, wax and coating, and wheels and tires
Car Exterior Wash & Protection Solution
Washing, iron removal, wax or coating, and wheels and tires are four different jobs with different chemistry. Car shampoo handles dust and road film and should be pH-neutral so it does not strip wax. Paint that feels gritty after washing, or little orange specks on a white car, is embedded iron that needs a chelating reaction rather than more rubbing. Wax and coating go on only after the paint is clean, and wheels and tires carry brake dust and grime that need their own products. CleenU matches exterior car-care products to that sequence and offers OEM/ODM private label for car-care brands, detailing channels and cross-border sellers.

Wash, Decontaminate, Then Protect, in That Order
Choose exterior car products in the order wash, decontaminate, protect, then wheels and tires. For routine washing, dilute a pH-neutral shampoo about 1:400 (roughly 1 oz in a 3-gallon bucket), foam it, wash top down with a mitt, rinse promptly, and dry in the shade. With no hose and only light dust, use a waterless wash one panel at a time. If paint still feels gritty after washing, spray an iron fallout remover on clean paint in the shade, wait 3–5 minutes for the purple reaction, and rinse. Protect afterward with a wax spray or a ceramic coating spray. Use a wheel cleaner on cool wheels and a tire shine on dry sidewalls. Do not work in direct sun or on hot paint, and do not substitute dish soap for car shampoo; always follow each product label and the condition of your paint.
- Wash: pH-neutral shampoo at about 1:400, mitt top down, rinse promptly and dry.
- Iron Removal: Gritty paint or orange specks: iron remover, 3–5 minutes to purple, then rinse.
- Protect: After a clean, dry wash, wax spray or ceramic coating, one panel at a time in the shade.
- Wheels & Tires: Wheel cleaner on cool wheels with a brush; tire shine on sidewalls only.
- Avoid: No hot sun or hot surfaces, no dish soap, no wax or coating on glass or brakes.

Where to Use It
Routine Paint Wash
Foam the shampoo at about 1:400 and wash top down with a mitt; use waterless wash one panel at a time when there is no hose.
Embedded Iron
If paint is gritty or has orange specks after washing, spray iron remover, wait 3–5 minutes for purple, never let it dry, and rinse.
Gloss & Water Beading
After a clean, dry wash, use wax spray for quick gloss or ceramic coating spray for longer protection, one panel at a time in the shade.
Wheels & Tires
Brush cool wheels with wheel cleaner; dry the tires and apply tire shine to the sidewalls only.
Spot-test natural stone, coated, and wood surfaces in a hidden area first.
When Not to Use It
- Cars caked in mud with no hose: rinse off the heavy grit first; waterless wash is not for sand and mud.
- Direct sun or hot paint and wheels: move to shade and let surfaces cool, because foam and solutions dry too fast on hot surfaces.
- Marks already etched into the clear coat by bugs or droppings: these need polishing, which these products do not replace.
- One-bottle expectations for washing, iron removal and coating: the three jobs work differently and are done in steps.

Compare the Options
Four common exterior jobs compared by product, pH, foam level and method. Car shampoo is a pH-neutral, high-foam concentrate used at about 1:400 with a mitt. Waterless wash is ready to use, one panel at a time. Iron remover is neutral, turns purple on iron, and is rinsed off. Wheel cleaner is neutral to mildly alkaline, with foam that clings to spokes before scrubbing and rinsing. Wax and coating sprays are protection steps after washing, not cleaners. The four do different work and do not replace each other.
| Cleaning Job | Where | Strength | Foam | Method |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wash | Paint, glass, wheel faces | Neutral, pH 7.0–8.0 | High foam | About 1:400 with a mitt, top down, rinse and dry |
| Iron Removal | Paint, wheels and calipers | Neutral, pH 6.0–8.0 | Low-foam spray | Spray, 3–5 minutes to purple, rinse |
| Wax & Coating | Clean, dry paint and exterior trim | Ready to use, pH 6.5–8.0 (wax) | None | One panel at a time, spread and buff |
| Wheels & Tires | Wheels and tire sidewalls | Neutral to mildly alkaline, pH 7.5–10.0 | Foam | Foam, wait 2–3 minutes, scrub and rinse |

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about how to use it, which surfaces are safe, and private-label orders.
Use & Cleaning
Why not wash a car with dish soap?
It is not recommended. Dish soap is designed for dishes, cuts grease hard and can strip existing wax and coating from the paint, and it lacks the lubricating polymers in car shampoo. For routine washing, dilute a pH-neutral car shampoo about 1:400 (roughly 1 oz in a 3-gallon bucket), wash top down with a mitt, rinse promptly and dry; follow the product label.
My paint feels gritty after washing, or a white car has little orange specks. What should I do?
Add an iron removal step. These particles are usually iron from brake dust and industrial fallout embedded in the paint, which shampoo does not remove. In the shade, spray the iron fallout remover on clean paint, wait 3–5 minutes for the purple reaction without letting it dry, then pressure-rinse. Repeat every three to six months or before waxing or coating.
How do I choose between waterless wash and car shampoo?
With a hose and a car carrying real dirt, choose shampoo. With no hose and only dust and light grime, choose waterless wash. In the shade, work one panel at a time: mist it, wipe in one direction with a microfiber folded in quarters, flipping to a clean side after each pass. If the car is caked in mud, rinse first rather than dry-wiping.
Surfaces & Safety
Can I spray wax or ceramic coating spray on the windshield or brakes?
No. The wax spray is for washed, dry paint, chrome and exterior trim (not glass), and neither the wax spray nor the ceramic coating spray goes on the windshield or brake parts. Work in the shade one panel at a time; sun and hot paint leave marks that are hard to buff out.
Can I wash or use iron remover in hot sun?
It is not recommended. Shampoo, iron remover and wheel cleaner dry quickly on hot surfaces, and iron remover should not exceed its stated contact time. Move the car to shade, let the paint and wheels cool, then follow the product directions.
Does the wheel cleaner work on every wheel? Can tire shine go on the tread?
The wheel cleaner is for painted, chrome, polished aluminum and matte wheels and tire sidewalls. Use it on fully cool wheels, never let it dry on the wheel, and do not use wire brushes. Embedded iron needs an iron remover instead. Tire shine goes on sidewalls only; keep it off the tread and brake rotors so grip is not affected.
Private Label & Sourcing
Can exterior car-care products be private labeled in small batches?
Yes. CleenU supports OEM/ODM for car shampoo, waterless wash, wax spray, coating spray, wheel cleaner and more. Standard projects start at 500 bottles, and bottle type, concentration, labels and packaging can be customized to your brand.
How long do samples and production take?
Free samples are usually ready in 3–5 days. After packaging and labels are approved, standard projects are scheduled when the order is confirmed to produce. Confirm details against your specifications and packaging plan.
Can you build wash kits or gallon sizes?
We can discuss it. Common directions include 1 L concentrate, 1-gallon (3.78 L) concentrate, kits with a wash mitt and microfiber towels, iron-remover-plus-coating sets, and channel case packs and ecommerce bundles.
